Mama Judy Yatarola, Program Director
To provide access to clean drinking water & education for rural communities in Kenya. Through "wells", education, and community-based mentorship, we aim to inspire and empower the local youth to lead active and healthy lives, while also promoting social and emotional well-being. We are committed to creating access where all local youth feel safe and valued.
The Well Program meets this challenge by building wells and orphanages in rural Kenyan villages. Our program provides local youth with the opportunity to engage in physical activity in a safe and supervised environment, while also promoting access to clean water.
Our well in Awendo, Kenya serves more than 500 people in a day especially during the rainy seasons. The orphanage community center acts as a “bridge” within the village, meeting dire needs such as first-aid, housing and access to education. Our program helps rural youth form positive relationships with their peers and to feel a sense of connection to their community.
When our team arrived in 2017 for humanitarian work, we instantly recognized the dire need for a well and community center orphanage in this village.
New construction completed in 2018 with new desks for the children, masks, educational supplies, first aid kits, a new kitchen, mattresses, and so many other needs have been met thanks to our donors.
What started as a humanitarian missions trip in 2017 turned into the question of "Could it be possible?" Since then, "Mama Judy" has relentlessly pursued the vision of social impact in rural villages across Kenya. Judy is retired and lives in Martinsville, VA along with her husband Art. Together they continue to develop new centers and dig new wells through Colere.
